My research is on
two dimensional electron system (2DES) in semiconductor
micro- and nano-structures. I have focused my attention on
the effects of the electron-electron interaction on the
ground state and excited states of the 2DES in an external
magnetic field at low temperature. I have worked on the
following problems:
- Screening of long range potential fluctuations
in a confined 2DES. Effects on equilibrium
properties.
- Quantum dots, ground state properties and
FIR absorption.
- Screening of impurities in small systems.
Ground state properties and FIR absorption.
- Spin inversion states in small systems.
- Effects of screening on the Hofstadter energy spectrum in a periodically modulated 2DES.
- 2DES in a periodically modulated magnetic field.
- Magnetization of mesoscopic electronic systems.
- Memory and hysteresis effects caused by the
exchange interaction of electrons.
- Non-linear excitation of electronic systems in
semiconductors on the nano scale by THz radiation pulses.
- Transport through quantum wires with embedded
quantum dots and rings with and without an external
magnetic field.
Most of the work has been carried out in close cooperation
with experimental groups and can be categorized as modelling
of electronic systems somwhere between theoretical and applied
physics. Many projects have resulted in heavy numerical work.
